The beatific vision is the end for which we all are created. It is the goal of our lives! When we make it to those heavenly shores and see God face to face, then a lifetime of trial, uncertainty, and separation from God will dissolve into an ocean of happiness. We will experience the complete fulfillment of all our deepest longings for loving and being loved and for the actualization of all our personal potential. We will be set free for loving and being loved.
But if we are created for happiness, why are we often so miserable in this life? Can we not enter into God’s heavenly kingdom of heavenly happiness here and now? Did not Jesus Christ, in fact, tell one of his young interlocutors that, on account of his mindset, he was “not far from the kingdom of God”? (See Mark 12:34.) Is it possible to experience a taste of the beatific vision on this side of the veil? Tune into today's podcast to consider this question more fully with me.
