The admonition not to be afraid is the first utterance inaugurating the coming of the new covenant in Christ. The phrase “fear not” or “be not afraid” resounds about 100 times from the pages of holy writ! Clearly, it is a central theme of scripture, and this is so perhaps because it is a fundamental theme of human experience.
